Overview

I am a sewist and designer. I have 19 years of sewing experience, and have been the sole proprietor of Whatever Works for 5 years.

Details

The state of the environment is a concern for me. I realize that the fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters on the planet. We need to find a new way of creating desirable fashion without such detrimental results. I want to ensure that my daughter and her generation have a healthy planet to inherit. With this goal in mind I incorporate as much reused and sustainable materials as possible into my creations. Many of my raw materials and other supplies come from the thrift store where I work. Sustainability and style are not mutually exclusive terms, and being green doesn’t mean dressing in drab. I have a preference for visible woolen mends. My favorites are colorwork Swiss darns on knitted sweaters. But I I also adore tiny plaid woven darns on lightweight sweaters. I'm just starting to take on client work. I have two little kids at home so my turnaround time is a bit longer.
I may not be the best fit for you if you are highly allergic to cats. While I take care to keep items clean and stored when not actively being mended, I do have a long hair cat in the house.

Bio

I went to college for art, am outdoorsy and love wool. I'm a mama to two little boys and have a fluffy orange cat. I've been knitting since the early 2000s and am very involved with the local fiber growers community through the CT Fibershed.
